Yeah I’ve spoke to van from sportbiketrackgear, he just recommended me to first try it out an see for myself. An that he only recommended a tune if I have plan to do tracks in the future. He also ran a few of his old ninja with full setup an said he never had any issues. so will see, I mean I’m sure In the future im going to end up getting a tune from Norton.
One thing the tune will do for the bike is eliminate the in/ off throttle response these bikes have and are enhanced when adding a slip on or full exhaust.

After my track days in May I finally decided that for my safety on the bike on the track or even the street a tune was necessary.

I find it hard to be smooth on the throttle on a stock OEM tune.
I'm now Norton tuned and can't wait to ride the bike and see how well the tune softened up the throttle from where it was.

It’s your money to do what you want but my question is why will people spend money on “farkles” that do nothing better than what comes from the factory but then don’t want to retune. I am sure that 90% of them would choose the tune option if they rode a bike with it and felt the difference overall-not just power or speed. To many people the stock suspension is fine but improving only the front or rear doesn’t make sense and that’s how I feel about turning. If I had to pick only one thing I would keep the factory exhaust and reflash the ecu to eliminate the restrictions for better drivability but that’s only me, as I said at the beginning it’s your money enjoy it your way.

As I stated before eventually in the future i will end up getting a tune from Norton, I just wanted others opinion toward the matter. I’m still new to the whole motorcycle world an I’ve only been riding for about 3-4 months, but I’ve also done tons of research before deciding to make my own move. I appreciate you guys inputs.

Agreed! The jerky light throttle response (which was made worse with just a slip-on) made my bike difficult---and scary at times-- to do low speed maneuvers, roll on throttle, or maintain neutral throttle in corners---all important skills to learn for this newbie. Also, the excessive engine braking limited my braking skills. Yes, I can feel the power difference from the ecu flash, but more importantly the bike is so much smoother, and fun to drive which is a confidence booster, and allows me to explore these crucial aspects of riding I mentioned.

Yeah the ninja 400 sure as **** got a strong engine breaking lol

Notice, this is not advice!! Its the state that my Z400 sits right now with 9K miles. Start with a free flow generic air filter, intake snorkels removed, evap removed, pair valve removed, 02 sensor removed. I used kawasakibrad elimination plugs for the above. The 02 plug adds 3% more fuel at all rpm, now a closed circuit fuel injection. Full Musarri exhaust (02 plugged). No back fires and runs cool at 3 bars, occasionally 4 bars. I ride 31 miles down a freeway at 80+ to get to the twisties. Ride some insane fun mountain roads at quick pace. No flash or tune, she just runs so strong so I never pulled the ecu for a flash. As I was catching up with a buddy on Hwy 280, peaked at my gauges to see 105 mph, not even trying. I'll get jumped on for no tune or flash but sharing info from my experiments. Just ride the darn bikes and have fun.

I brought mine home from the dealer in a trailer. Rode it around the hood as delivered a bit. Maybe 20 miles. Nice smooth throttle response, no bucking or surging, no on/off throttle quirks, so little engine braking it could have been a 2-stroke. And then I started tuning it. :)

I wasn’t implying everyone should tune their bike. I liked mine enough afterwards to keep the bike instead of trading it but probably not if I had spent that money on grips, windscreens, rear sets, etc.. I rode mine 6000 miles before I did it so I agree everyone should ride it awhile first and then decide if it’s for you. The main thing is RIDE it. I can’t believe how someone would trade any bike in with 16 miles on it- I saw one at a dealer last week!

Yeah I’m gonna ride it an see for myself how it feel with the full exhaust, if I’m not satisfy then most likely I’m sending in my ecu for a flash, can’t really do much atm since the guy at Norton who does flash doesn’t come back from his vacation until the 15th.
