There should be no problems with this.

 

This is good information. There are some differences in the frame, I think. But I wasn't sure about the engine mount points. Normally you would have to twist the factory's arm to make such a tooling change. For example, you can put a 14R motor in a Gen1 14, even with the additional 4mm stroke it comes with.

 

My concern with the swap has to do with the ECU, wiring etc. Are the ECU hookups the same? What about wiring? The dash is different on the N500. I wonder how much of a problem getting little things to work might be. Gas gauge, speedometer, gear indicator etc. Am very interested in how this goes if you try it.

 

I posted this question as a “worst case scenario”. I haven’t seen the bike to know if the frame is straight or not, but I know it runs good.
I know the forks swap over, does the rear shock swap over? If the frame is straight I may just put my go fast stuff on the 2024 500 frame.

The lower mount for the rear shock is more narrow on the N500 due to it having welded on spacers. I run a N400 Ohlins on my N500, but I needed a machinist to grind down the removable shock lower spacer to make it fit. I just gave him the N500 stock shock and said “make the Ohlins spacer this size”. It works perfectly.

 

Also, my N500 track bike has practically 100% N400 track parts. Everything fit perfectly with the exception of the aforementioned shock spacer and the $15 clutch bypass plug (the N500 switch has a couple more prongs than the N400).

 

As an alternative to having machine work done to mount the GSXR shock, another thread indicates that one can purchase the lower mount pivot from a 400 and use it on the 500. I haven't tried it yet, but should know later this week.
