Hi folks,

Reckon I should make an account as i've been browsing for the past few months. I have a 2022 ABS model that I bought back in May. This bike is my introduction to motorcycles in general as I hail from the 4x4 world. I wanted something that could be fun on the street and be a compliment to my car for daily use. Definitely liking the gas mileage and nimbleness- seriously has been a good investment. Took my MSF course a week after buying it and have been enjoying myself ever since.

Anyway, I was lucky enough to get exactly what I wanted from one of these bikes. ABS model, what I believe to be "Twilight Blue", with some basic mods from the previous 1 owner. Had 11500 miles on it, thought it was high but I didn't mind. Bought it off a gentlemen in the USAF looking to get a bigger bike, seems typical.

Mods as bought:
  • Smoked windscreen
  • Rear spools
  • Quadlock arm
  • Exhaust (I dont know the brand)
  • Aftermarket Oil filler cap
  • Short license plate tail

Been unable to identify any others but he did take some of the decals off which I agree with, hasn't been dropped to my knowledge.

On the car side, I wrench and like reading the more technical aspects of what people do to their projects. Im used to doing suspension work and the likes, so this is a departure to what I'm familiar with. 1500 miles after I started riding it, the clutch started slipping enough to concern me so I went ahead and swapped all of the disks and springs to the Barnett stuff. Figured that a new rider on an more used clutch don't mix well, so I wasn't too surprised. Don't really plan on doing anything else to the bike, maybe a taller windscreen or sliders as ive been taking it to the twisties and practicing my low speed maneuvering. Appreciate the community here and look forward to participating and learning more.

Pic for attention.

Welcome to the community.
Just curious if you got the stock parts (muffler, windscreen, etc.) with the purchase.
I did not get any spare parts from the previous owner. It seems that most of these were done early into his ownership so I am assuming that he tossed them.

Id like to switch to a clear windscreen or at least on that is not so dark. Annoying when im trying to see through it when tucked.

At least it's not a terrible fix now with the CBR600RR springs known to fit. And they're pretty reasonable cost wise. The only disadvantage is they give up the slipper part so if you downshift from like 2nd to 1st and dump the clutch it'll skid the back tire a bit until the engine revs up to match the wheel speed. I've done it a couple times, ya just kinda feel the back of the bike wiggle a bit. Can't say I've ever noticed it on anything but a 2nd to 1st and how often, other than stopping, are you shifting down to 1st? Even the tight sections on like 164 are 2nd and higher. Don't sweat it, ride it. It's not going to leave you stranded or anything like that. :)

Welcome from a lifer Arizonan.

I come from a dirt bike 4x4 background too.
we now have an awd SUV and a tougher4x4.
I moved from dirt bikes to quad’s and then cruisers to my current sport bike z400.

Here's a link to my thread regarding installing Dunlop Mutant tires and some engine guards to allow for safer travel on Arizona dirt roads.

Thanks for the welcome,

Arizona is a great place to crawl around in the dirt and lift some tires. Camping is amazing too, I like car camping when possible. I want to go back up to Sedona and hit some of the trails there next. I have exhausted most of the Tucson trails short of Charouleau Gap.

Love the Z400 build
