Good Morning folks,
Last night while I was wiping the bugs off my helmet visor I got to wondering about what would be the best cleaning solution. I was using a glass cleaner with a terry cloth face towel and it occurred to me that the visor is not in fact glass. The standard "warm soapy water" method doesn't really seem feasible, too much streaking and where am I going to hang my helmet to dry? My visor is still in really good shape and I'd like to keep it that way. What's the best maintenance method you folks have found?

I find warm water is the best. If some bugs have crusted on, just keep it wet for a little while and they will come off. As you mentioned, chemicals are always a mixed bag and you are not sure what will or won't damage the plastic. Can't go wrong with water and a towel (with gentle rubbing). Even a soft paper towel works well if you want to keep it fast and simple. Warm wet towel to remove the dirt, dry towel to absorb the water. No streaking.

Take a moist paper towel and lay it upon the shield (don't wipe or move it around) and just let it sit there untouched for a couple minutes. Remove, then wipe off gently with a microfiber towel, and everything'll come right off. That eliminates any type of scrubbing that might scratch it, however minor.

Dang I must be the only one that uses Meguiars Qwik Detailer on glass, Plexi, and acrylic.
Works great in the visit for cleaning and leaves behind a coating that makes it easier to clean once applied.

Microfiber cloth is all you need and a small spray bottle in your tank bag to clean the visor and headlights while protecting them from those awful live bugs we have twice a year in the Deep South.

After I soften the dried bug bodies with a warm, wet, microfiber cloth (a wet paper towel is fine to lay over the visor, just don't rub with it) I wipe with that same cloth. Sontara window wipes are made for plastic/plexiglass so I use them to dry it and finish with Plexus and another window wipe.

Anyone riding without a full visor around here is going to have a face full of nasty bugshit.
Yep, and there are also the bigger hits from bees or the type of rocks that can crack a car's windshield to be concerned about.

Once upon a time just after dusk in South Dakota it seemed every flying bug in the state decided to swarm me. I was concerned about just being able to see the road. Stopped at the first station to clean my visor and headlights. The lights had lost a lot of effectiveness. Between the visor & lights, it felt like I'd entered a thick fog even after the swarm was gone.

This only happened the one time. But it was bad.

I like my visor!
