I just had a good ride on some major mountain-curves with the CRG's and, as mine are setup, they work fine. Of course, I have to look down more to use them and I can see both elbow tips but the rear views are perfectly clear and utterly vibration-free with the heavy OEM bar end weights. I agree with a previous comment about the weights seeming too long but I can see the rear better with the CRG's than with the OEM mirrors. So, mine will stay on until I might find a better solution.

Installation with stock bar end weights: Removal of the clutch-side weight revealed only a small area of the handlebar available to slip the 7/8" CRG's onto but it's enough. Bolting the weight back on afterwards also helps hold the mirror in place just fine. The plastic throttle/switch block needs to be moved inward to get enough handlebar exposed to mount the CRG without binding against the throttle. The throttle/switch block has a small plastic stud that fits into a positioning hole in the handlebar. If you unbolt the block, it's obvious. To move the throttle assembly inward, I had to elongate the handlebar hole about 3/16" inward to move the whole assembly inward enough to fit the mirror taking care to not bind the throttle. Then, the weight can be reinstalled I hope that made sense.

Thank you. The clutch side sounds simple. Does the throttle side require drilling another set hole in the handle bar? Which CRG model is this? Ok, wasted enough of your Saturday time.

🙂 That’s okay. I simply elongated the existing hole inward about 3/16” with a Dremel Grinder which moved the whole throttle assembly inward thus exposing enough handlebar end for the CRG to grip well. It was fairly easy. You could use a drill to put another hole overlapping the existing hole and clean it up with a file to make it elongated too. It can also be returned to the factory position if needed. My CRG’s are 7/8” Hindsight Lane Splitters.

Hey,
Look into some mirror extenders. They were simple to install and I can see past my arms now. The link below is what I got and they even have the Z400 logo on them.

I finally found a set of extenders that didn't have anything engraved on them, we'll see how long they take to get here from China.

For those who haven't replaced your stock Z400 mirrors. It's a hot day on the coast with millions of tourist. Hwy 1 is packed so I'm not riding today. I keep playing with the idea of changing to bar end mirrors but with time on my hands I decided an attempt to adjust the stock mirrors. They adjust on a big ball joint. I pushed them as low (towards the grips) as possible and right away I liked the appearance better (psychological). Rolled it out into the street to adjust and found I didn't see my shoulder anymore, however I'm a small guy which helps. Will take the Z for a ride soon to see if I'm just blowing smoke, lol.
Took a ride with the mirrors in this lower position. My view is definitely improved. Was avoiding extensions so this adjustment put a temporary smile on my face.

Blowing Smoke? I'm shocked! Surely not on this Forum.. ;)
When I adjust my mirrors and can see behind me, without raising elbows or otherwise contorting myself into a pretzel, I'm seeing only a small outer edge of forearms and hands on both sides. Surprisingly, the right mirror offers the best view of a vehicle behind me in my lane, and I depend on it more. The left is OK, but before I make any lane change or merge, I'd rather look over my shoulder to be certain.

Evening here, cooling off. Our high was low to mid 80's. Whew!. Got me a set of those mirror extenders made by the Chinese school girls. On their lunch break of course. Work fine. Solved my issues 🐉

Can someone help with the mirror thread sizes please. I can't find this information anywhere and mine are really tight - I want to know that I am putting thee force needed to remove them in the right direction!
Am I right in thinking that they are both normal right hand thread and M10 with a 1.25 pitch?

I just ordered a set of bar-end China cheapos off of eBay. I'll post some pictures and an initial impression after they arrive and I get them installed. I like the mirror extender option I've seen here. Might go that route of the bar ends don't work out.

The left one is exactly that on the Ninja 400. Can’t tell you about the right. Did you ever get either one loose?
No, but thank you. At least I know how to have a go on the left now - although, the intention was for extenders and I'm heading towards "bugger it, leave 'em standard" in which case i won't disturb them - leave them be while they are nice and tight!

Hey Ranjanharris,

I bought similar ones to these. However, when I mount the mirrors, they don't line up. I tried to unscrew the chrome bolt that's hiding beneath the rubber dust covers, but the bolt and mirror stems rotate alot, but don't move (almost like they're made of plastic - they turn, but don't loosen - they rotate back to where they stared). I wonder if they've got loc-tite on them. Did you have to heat them to get them loose?

Hi Tracy. Did you have issues aligning the mirrors? I'm trying to adjust mine by loosening the chrome bolt under the rubber dust cover. However, it rotates about 20 degrees, then moves back to it's original position (like the mirror shaft is made of plastic and just springs back). I wonder if there's loc-tite on it. Did you have to heat it to get it loose, or did it line up correctly when you installed it?

No I didn't have to heat then up or anything. But I did have to get a slimmer wrench to be able to fit onto the nut that's in between. If you don't hold that nut in place it could be hard to get the mirror off. I can't remember how the setup was before I took it apart, so if you're still having trouble reply with a picture and I'll see if I can get you some better instructions.
