What is your camping/ luggage combo,or suggestions, packing tips for camping...?

Brothers and sisters who love camping....

Any suggestions for sidebags and racks for the odd trip camping ( likely 2 or three nights away)would be appreciated. I don't seem to know where to start. I'm hoping to spend less than $400US, but has to be less than $600US

Needs to be durable, or cheap.

Do you guys use a topbox as well? Or do you lay your tent/ sleeping pad attached with bungees

The cost is the tricky part. You can make it happen but by limiting cost you squeeze your options. A duffel bag strapped to the pillion and then VERY light gear on top of that might work. REI definitely has motorcycle camping sized tents (I have a Kelty I use when camping from my Gold Wing). Cheap soft saddlebags would help with total gear capacity, but the first hurdle is having a place to crash out.
Perhaps a hammock tent, they are pretty small. Avoid need for ground pads etc.
Wow - a camping trip with the Ninja 400! Gonna be tough. The first thing that comes to my mind is how to bring beer?! :p

Same here. He’s gonna need a bigger bike. Never forget your fishing pole. :)
And lots of bungee cords. :)

Maybe this is somewhat of uncharted waters here on ninja400riders.com
Definitely update your progress on how you pack camping gear on your Ninja400, could be a whole new thread category here.

Haha I remember heading away back in the 80s with just a backpack, containing a couple of t shirts, socks and grots, and a sleeping bag. No wet weather gear, no cellphones, no credit cards.

Now I think I'd just be taking a phone and credit card.

You could try somewhere like the Adventure Rider website. They have alot of information!

when i first got this bike, i wanted to do a long distance trip, and i wanted to wear out the stock tires. 3 day trip with a backpack and bag for hiking shoes. I stayed in a small cabin though.
im hoping to do one with buddies this time, and will prob get roxstraps and maybe saddle bags.

I did some camping on the ninja, i used a 50 liter hiking backpack that i sagged enough so that it would rest in the back seat so it didnt weight that much on my shoulders or hip, but i am very minimalist, i eat canned food while camping and i use the clothes that i carry on my body for trips of no more that 4 or 5 days, i dont sweat much so i dont stink that much either. I had a small 2 person tent, a sleeping bag, air mattress, air pillow, 1 pair of swim shorts for the pool or river, a pair of flip-flops and one beach towel that i used for the beach/pool/showering, also i dont brush my teeth while camping and rarely shower, i am alone and mostly riding, i am not there to impress anyone or look good.

I since upgraded to a Royal Enfield Himalayan for camping trips and mosko moto saddle bags, love those bags, best 900€ i have ever spent. and allows me to go camping with my girlfriend.

I use Hebco&Becker C-Bow saddle bags and have replaced the rear seat with an H&B Sport-Rack.

I'm currently using the H&B Street bags, each of 15 liters capacity. The Sport-Rack allows for a Rhinowalk 30 liter dry bag I purchased from Aliexpress.com to be attached crosswise. Plenty of room for camping/long distance traveling and not too expensive

Could someone please give me the length from the very beginning of the pillion to the end of the tail? I leave to pick up my bike next week and want to size my travel bag to fit the pillion area. Thx
I have a 2018 N400 and take annual trips around 800 miles each year. Maybe I'm a bit older but I book motels & can put everything else I need in a backpack. Obviously I ride alone...

At one point in my riding / camping career, I thought I "needed stuff." To the point that I had a hitch and trailer. I enjoyed packing, carrying and returning with a trailer full of stuff that never saw the light of day! Eventually invested in good backpacking gear, REI is a good source for example. I have a cabinet full of various size bags / duffels/ top cases, etc. Bottom line is backpacking gear is your friend. Good luck and enjoy, it is still one of my favorite activities! Here's an example from a couple past bikes. BTW, a good top case makes a good beer cooler once you're set up at camp!

How did we survive those days? Heavy load AND drum brakes? I recall "Flintstoning" seeming like a good idea at times :D

Here's some pics. I added the measuring tape so you can see the actual seat area and the fairings, and also to judge the distance to the rider seat.
