I know starting engines in the winter doesn't let the motor fully warm up but it's the end of the month and I needed to let the sound of engines running warm my heart so I went out in the garage and fired everything up (2 bikes and 2 cars) and let them run for a half hour. I like listening to my not a Ninja KPR 200cc thumperette running but the Ninja KRT still sounds the best since I modified the stock muffler. I came back in the house smelling of exhaust and with a big grin on my face.

Lots of track day prep last few days in preparation for MSRH this weekend...
  • Rain light (cheap amazon switch and light)
  • Removed kickstand (and kill switch delete..norton adapter)
  • Removed passenger footrests
  • Removed charcoal (kawasaki brad delete)
  • Removed mirrors and license plate holder
  • Probolt titanium bits for safety wiring (tried drilling holes in existing bolts...but sucked at it)
  • Safety wiring, safety wiring, safety wiring
  • Dunlop Q5s (mounted myself)
  • Brake and clutch lever guards
  • GB engine guards and fin
  • Woodcraft axle slides
  • Motion pro coolant reservoir
  • Oil change
  • Coolant flush (put water wetter in...then the temp dropped, so added some antifreeze back)
  • Steering damper (ohlins and graves kit)...tried spears damper and busted it immediately as I didn't know how important steering stops are.
  • Steering stop (Norton non db holders version)
  • Taped up the shiny bits
Man this gets expensive fast...and it's not any faster than it was (not that I'm good enough at the track for it to matter). I do love bolting things on bikes though:)

Didn't need all of this for a ridesmart track day....but hope to work up to a CMRA Race this year.
Yes it definitely does get expensive fast! What tire machine do you have?

I used a drill bit with long extension and put 2 (1/2") holes in bottom of exhaust pipe. Wasn't room down there for a third hole. A little louder and deeper exhaust note (satisfying) but not loud enough to irritate others. I haven't noticed any big change in performance.

I did the same thing to my not a Ninja 200cc KPR thumperette but that one still sounds a little wimpy.

Had a new front tire put on yesterday and installed a Zero Gravity touring windscreen today.
Went from 3 stick on weights with the Road 5 to NO weights with the Metzler. Took it out to get the tire heated up to season it. I hate going out the first time on a new tire. Anyway, I hit a few backroads and found with the new windscreen that I can comfortably tuck with my small tankbag. I'm diggin it!

Lots of packages arrived this week. Started installing it all. Some of this was required after a spill at the track (bent bars, busted fairings, etc).

Hotbodies fairings (got most of it installed...lot of fitting required. Man quality is a bit rough...should have went Armor or Laco)
Norton levers (green)
Woodcraft clipons
Woodcraft switch delete
Motion pro rev3 throttle tube (Norton lighter spring installed and totally worth it)
Db holders stay (wow this was a tight fit...also I need to remove it and drill a hole as it doesn't fit my steering damper mount as it's missing a hole)
Removed left switch gear (clutch switch delete)

Next weekend...

Block off plates and pair removal
Bodywork fittings finished (tail, front fender(
ABS removal FTECU and new brake lines

I have a cheap lever type bead breaker from Amazon. Black Widow brand I think. Bit flimsy...but works great. Then once I break... liberal amounts of mounting gel to pull it off the rim. I have a manual bike master tire balancer too.

And yes...prepping this bike can be expensive fast! But I love my garage time.

Got her out of storage. She did not want to start first: starter was turning, engine was making almost-starting noises but nothing. I tried giving the battery a boost from my inlaws' car, still nothing. Finally, managed to start her by having her run down a garage slope in 2nd gear and accelerating. So, finally, Brutus got home to help me maintain my sanity. ;) Not her best picture, but then I was pretty tired and busy by this point. But happy!
