My 500 is the same.i haven't dug in to it yet. I also have a high idle condition that is controlled by a solenoid I believe.

Haven't noticed the in gear/in neutral difference, I've just noticed high idle. I'll check.that. I briefly looked at the 400 manual for the slack adjustment but like I said I haven't spent any time on it yet.

Ok dug into this today. Apparently several of the 500's get into our hands with excessive throttle play. To adjust it you have to virtually max out the adjustment at the throttle and at that it just doesn't feel quite right. On the 500 there is only one adjustment under the plastic unlike the 400. Previous pics from the 400 manual don't carry over to the 500 exactly but it's close. I backed off the only adjustment at the throttle body this much after running the adjustment at the throttle all the way in.

Tightened up the lockout at the adjuster

Then only a turn or two at the rhrottle adjustment and all is right.

Left. Gotta take off the upper small plastics on that side and reach in. If you also loosen the big fairing by removing the lower fairing it makes it easier.
Throttle now feels REAL good

Took a real ride with the properly adjusted thottle cable this evening. Yesss!! REALLY helped the twitchy throttle.
I'll bet all the 500's are the same just like all the early 400's clutch cables were adjusted improperly. A newer rider wouldn't realize that it's bad, just think thats the way it is
