8500 miles on my 2019 Z400, no issues. Has Spears clutch springs and a cable spring. I ride moderately in the twisties and some freeway cruising.

 

good idea for a poll, but can't answer myself as i haven't experienced a clutch failure. the service history / previous owner never mentioned anything like that happening either.

 

My previous owner mentioned everything was stock on the bike when I picked up at 2400 miles. Only thing shown was a dealership receipt from a routine service.

 

Pre-emptively changed my springs and clutch rod to reduce the possibility of wasting a paid for track day. So can’t know. But, no issues. Bike had maybe 800 miles when I changed it. Mostly track miles since then.

 

I replaced the springs at 6k(wanted to be sure I was keeping the bike) but no slipping before or since-10k+ now.

 

Street & highway riding only on my 2019. Completely stock regarding the clutch and friction plates, etc, with aftermarket adjustable levers. 21,000 miles to date w/o incident.

 

that gives me some hope my clutch will last a while.

 

I'm at 25,600 miles on my 2020. Totally stock clutch with no changes or mods. No issues so far.

 

Interesting idea for a survey. Mrs Pwalo works for our government's Stats department, and she just loves this stuff. She would no doubt point out the risk with self reported surveys, but that really is another argument.

But I have a hunch that most riders who are not using their bikes for the track, or constantly chasing the red line will have no clutch issues. I only use my N400 for commuting and shorter rides, so I haven't put as many Kms on my bike as I'd like, but I've had no issues to date.

 

I think most here would agree that it’s not really how many miles but how the clutch was treated- smooth but quick release and shifting vs heavy handed abuse would matter more.

 

The 2018 and 2019 clutch life is going to be shorter than 2020 and later.
Much less friction material can be used before they start to slip.
It wouldn't be possible to wear all of the friction material off of a set of stock plates with the early pull rod and bearing.
It is a design flaw of the early clutch.

 

I have around 6600 miles before my clutch started slipping. 98% of the miles are track and racing. The clutch started slipping near the end of a track day. It went from pulling strong to slipping in a session. I have the Barnett clutch springs and the spring for the clutch cable.

I have the same setup as you on the springs so I won't have to worry about the clutch anytime soon.

Heck at the pace I'm going with 320 miles in 9 months I'll be raising daiseys before I hit 6,600 miles. 😂🤨😳

 

The new 2023 Ninja 400 is said to have a 20% lighter to pull clutch, does this mean some improved parts/upgrades?

 

2021 Z400

clutch started slipping under hard acceleration right around the 2,000 mark.
Now have a youodyne with 2,800 MORE miles on the bike (4,800 total) and its working perfectly.

 

How are you liking the Yoyodyne slipper clutch?
This is on my list for the future especially if I experience any issues with the stick clutch.

Clutch is completely fine and nothing was wrong in the orignal model as well. Me being on one and having 15k km's can confirm 0 problems & know alot of others locally and from this forum over 40 and 50k who never had an issue as well. It's all about how you ride! If you trashing it every stop light, you obviously cant change at the required sensitivity, therefore you will eventually mess up your clutch, clean cut and dry....

At 3600 miles currently and clutch appears to be going strong so far.

 

Mine had to be replaced before 3000 miles. I ride very conservatively. After all I am 78 years young and live in Bohol Philippines where the roads and traffic leave little room for playing road racer. I have been riding since I was 14 years old. I was only without a motorcycle for a period of about 5 years in all that time so don't try and sell me the idea that it was my fault.
I have also built complete frames and overhauled many a motorcycle.
It cost me almost $100.00 to fix the issue. I didn't try to get it fixed under warranty because of where I live. It is an hour ride to the ferry plus 1 1/2 hour ferry ride to Mactan island plus another 30-40 minutes from there to the closest dealer which I am sure do not have any parts inventory. I wanted to ride NOW not wait for months to get Kawasaki to fix it. Anyone that has any small mechanical ability can replace clutch parts. I got updated parts from Italy in 2019.
