Racing season is finally starting again in a few days! I have everything packed up and tomorrow I head down to Daytona for my first round of the season. Unfortunately I've been nursing a right wrist injury since the end of last season in September, which doesn't seem to be getting better. In fact I'd say it's gotten slightly worse :( Went to 3 doctors so far including a wrist/hand specialist and nobody seems to know what's wrong. Initially they thought tendonitis, but the anti-inflammatory medication I got didn't make any difference. Friday morning I'll find out exactly how bad it's going to be when I'm riding. I'm hoping adrenaline will kick in and will mask the pain, at least enough for about 15 minutes, which is roughly the length of each sprint race, but my guess is that it will hurt quite a bit in every hard braking zone, and Daytona has about 4 corners that involve hard braking.

Let’s see some photos of your race bike
This is from last year, but nothing's really changed. Haven't even fixed the bodywork so it still looks ugly and dirty lol First picture is from early on in the season when it still looked nice (I think 2nd or 3rd time on it). The other pic is from the last time I rode it in October. A lot more bugs, lot more paint chips, and some rash lol

Man, that's a bummer about your wrist mate. Pretty integral part of the operation eh. Is this a racing injury from last season? Will be interesting to hear how you go this wkd. Winter before last I fell off my pushie and ended up with my left wrist in a cast (initially misdiagnosed as fractured) and then a splint for 8 weeks. I was just lucky it happened about three months before I needed to go racing again, but it was about a year before it was fully OK. The orthopedic surgeon at the hospital said wrists can take a long time to heal, but it sounds like you've had that already. Must be a bit demoralizing. Hope you get some improvement soon.

How come you didnt tart up the bike during the off season??

Good luck and have fun. Front brakes are really over rated. Was it Rossi that said his new winning technique was using rear break 90%? o_O I hope your wrist becomes a non issue. Great pictures.

I know a few guys headed down to Daytona to race and some just to hang out! I am sure it’s a blast! I will go one of these days.
We should do a thread just for injuries. I had 2 screws inserted in my right foot in Nov from an injury in 2018. The foot is feeling much better and doesn’t bother me on the bike! So it won’t be an issue this riding season!!! Injuries suck at any age but are worse when you get older. We fossils take forever to heal.???

Lmao, but I totally relate to this

Ha ha, aint that the truth!
About a year ago I was lamenting to an older racing friend about my lack of progress at my home track and he said to me "what do you you think is holding you back?"
My reply was "Fear of crashing" ?
another one I reply sometimes "If I knew, I wouldn't really need a coach would I"

@sbk1198 You arrived yet bro? Hows it all going at Daytona?
One of the worst and most disappointing race weekends ever. Most probably already know what happened, but here's a quick summary. First off, it turned out my wrist did not bother me at all while riding in the few laps I got. First practice session...3 laps. On lap 2 I broke my PB by a few tenths. Bike was running really strong and the weather was perfect. Second practice session, they shorted us because they were a bit behind schedule. Didn't get a single full lap, just the out lap and the cooldown lap. After that, the timing system broke (supposedly) and everyone was on hold for over an hour. Then Trump declared a state of emergency due to the corona virus and as a result, the state of florida and city of daytona beach canceled the entire event...all our races, the Daytona 200, the American Flat Track TT race, bike week shows, EVERYTHING! Not a single race took place! There were people there that drove all the way from California, parts of Canada, etc. who drove over 2000 miles each way to get there and spent days and thousands of dollars on travel and prepping for the Daytona 200. The atmosphere after that announcement was made was pretty livid. Don't think I've seen so many angry people in one place before.

That dang virus... Gutted for you my dude. How many miles is Daytona from where you live?
There's no positive spin you can put on that, it just sucks.

About 1430 miles round trip for me. But other people from the west coast probably had about 5000-mile round trip.

Still no racing, but at least I should get on the track soon. Signed up for a track day on Monday, during Memorial Day. NCBIKE, which is the closest track to me. Cheap and quick drive. $99 for the day, which is by far as cheap as track days get. (Normal prices at this track are around $165-$190).

That's one bonus having a cheaper rate. We are allowed to do track hires here now but no meetings allowed as we have a max gathering rule of 10 people still. This weekend is mildish but from anytime now it will be too cold. It may be September for me...
Have a good time on Monday. (y)

I got the email about the $99 deal with N2, awesome price for sure! I hope to hit NCBIKE sometime this season.

I've always been worried about getting hurt and having to go to the hospital, pandemic or no pandemic. If I get that hurt bad enough that I need to go to the hospital, getting a virus is gonna be the last thing I'll be worried about. First time out on the bike in quite a long time, and they changed the layout of this track (running it in reverse direction), plus it's just a track day...so I'm gonna try to not push myself to 100% and just have some fun.
