Penske Remote Reservoir Mount

225 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Flash Bantam
Does anyone have a picture or example of where and how to mount a penske rear shock remote reservoir?

The box came with some clamps, rubber and a piece of metal, but it seems like a half effort at best.

If I mount it to my left passenger peg bolt hole (actual peg has been removed), it sticks out and hits my boot heel.

Would love to see pics of a solution or help.

I bent up a piece of aluminum and have a solution that seems to work, but it is not great.

It looks like K-tech has a nice little mounting bracket that uses the passenger peg mount. K-tech Suspension products

Not directly applicable to the 400, but it might give you some ideas. On my 500, I mounted it on the outside of the rear "subframe", where the side plastic bulges out. It looks like that spot was made for it, though it's not really protected if you happen to go down on that side.

Thanks.

I like the k-tech mount as it seems well thought out. Wish penske had one in the kit.

I'll stick with my current setup that I fabricated. It at least keeps the reservoir out of the way of a crash. So far seems stable.

I'll keep my eye out for other solutions. It is a 2" cylinder. I'm assuming there are some rollbar mounts I could reverse engineer. I may fabricate something cleaner later.

How about a picture of the setup for someone else that may need some help on this subject.
Personally I'd love to see it as I jury rig, I mean fabricate when I have to as well. 😂😉

I used a mount designed for a GXSR fromEVOL Technology. The spacer is there to allow the reservoir to clear the battery area.

Here is what I settled on for now. 2" rollbar mount off Amazon. Bolted through the plastic under fairing with a bolt I access under the seat. Not perfect, but out of the way of my foot and a crash. Dont like that it is secured only to plastic...but seems sturdy enough for now.

My opinion from your photos: It could use a second plastic strap or some safety wire rigging just in case because if it should vibrate loose it would hit the tire.

That looks like a good location for the reservoir. I thought of that location for my Scottoiler, but settled on the bracket holding the passenger peg because I could have the filler positioned on top instead of slightly to the side and thus get a little more oil in it.

Here's a photo of my 1989 CB1 400cc. Don't remember the brand rear shock but I thrashed this little bike for 19 years.
