Font Auto part Circle Parallel Drawing

Just noticed today when someone asked about their non-ABS 2023 Ninja 400 rear sensor and ring and posted a picture.

For 2023 Kawasaki redesigned the rear caliper hanger and moved the speed sensor and wire to the top of the swing arm. Now I am wondering if the new one is backwards compatible. Hmmmm.

In 2019, the first thing I did was to snag that abs/speedometer cable on an ancient rear stand. Glad Kawasaki moved that cable to above the swing arm.
You are not the only one, that's for sure.

Now to see if Fast Frank has one yet ...

Ooh he does, but only 1 in stock. Hmm.

Now he has 0 in stock. Gonna see if it will direct swap without the need for a new sensor wire.

Here are the diagrams from Kawasaki, so they don't look like garbage...

2018

2023

It might be possible to reuse the old sensor/cable, but the cable does come off the sensor at a very different angle. It looks like it would go pretty much straight into the swingarm using the old cable on the new bracket.

Here are all the new 2023 parts, if you want to do a retrofit.
Code:
ITEM NAME REF # PART NUMBER QUANTITY
SENSOR,SPEED,RR 21176 21176-1142 1
HOLDER-BRAKE 43034 43034-0171 1
CLAMP,HOSE&SENSOR LINE 92173 92173-1614 1
CLAMP 92173A 92173-2481 1
CLAMP 92173B 92173-2483 1
BOLT-SOCKET,6X12 120 120CA0612 2
The new sensor/cable, the bracket, another of the existing hose/line clamp, two new clamps to hold the cable, and two bolts to mount the clamps to the bracket. On my local dealership's parts site, the sensor/cable is $130, the bracket is $80, and another ~$15 for the clamps and bolts, so about $225 total. Partzilla is $170 total.

Just for comparison, here are FF's modded brackets too. It makes it really easy to see how the old one is just hanging down there by itself, while the new one is up above near the caliper. You can also see the two clamp mounting points on the new bracket.

I've already got all the new brackets for the 2023. Gonna try with the original cable. If it doesn't work that was part of the point of doing this. To find out.

The new 2023 Fast Frank modified Captive Caliper holder arrived today. I'll have to make time this week or weekend to try the swap and see if the old cable will work.

I think I cut that ABS thjnga majiggy off mine...made it a PIA to get rim on and off...I dont need no stickin' ABS...never had it
I don't have ABS. For all the 400 models it is the speedometer sensor at least. It also doubles as my motion sensor for my data collection system to calculate gear for mapping with the data to speed, throttle, gps position.

The cable from the 18-22 will work... But is far from ideal. The cable exit from the sensor hits the sharp edge of the bracket mount where one of the new cable mounts bolts on behind the caliper. Pretty sure it would get worn through.

Once tightened down and all back together, it does work and sense the speed. She was just running free on the rear stand.

I did order the new cable, but will run the old one for now depending on how long until it arrives.

Here is 2018-2022 bracket next to the 2023. Both are Fast Franks quick change prepped.
