Hi guys,

I am working on installing a pair of auxiliary light for my night rides, but the light I bought can be turned on even when the key is not inserted, I thought the relay it came with (12V 40A) would prevent this but apparently it does not. So now I am now thinking wiring it to the headlight circuit where it can only be turned on with high beam switch, but it seems a painful job to do
Has anyone done similar things to this? how do you guys wire the lights so that it won't drain the battery ?

A relay is just an electrically operated switch. Depending on what wires you hook it up to, it could be configured to work at all times or only when the key is on.

Even if you wire the load side directly to the battery, running the control side off the high-beam switch should cause it to only turn on when the key is on, since the high-beam wire would only be on when the key is also on.
