I have a 2019 ninja 400 and I’ve never had any issues with it but tonight I decided to open the throttle up in first gear something I haven’t done since I’m on the bike the bike took off like a bat out of **** and I enjoyed every minute of it but the moment I pulled into a gas station the engine started knocking but only when I gave it more throttle it idled perfectly but if I gave it throttle while it was a neutral it sounded like something was rattling and then on the way home it died all together and now it won’t crank can anyone please tell me what this might be. It’s still under warranty thank God but if anyone could please get back to me ASAP as to what this might be I would really appreciate it. The service engine soon light never came on I don’t know what it could be. Thank you in advance!

So out of curiosity, when you say opened the throttle in first gear, did you bounce of the rev limiter a couple of times or get into the 10k rpm range? In any event, it shouldn't "kill" the engine but anything is possible. I had a crank go out on my 1 year old KLR 650 while commuting to work so there will be some engine failures. Hopefully you still have the warranty so it will be replaced. If you have modified the engine or flashed the ECU there may be some warranty issues.

Take it to your Kawasaki dealer and let them sort it out. And you may want to forgo that bit of "full throttle" information... Just keep it to yourself... and hope they don't ask any questions. (y)

It won't crank at all? Check your battery connection - maybe all the vibration knocked it loose. Maybe the kickstand sensor check that too.

As for the rattling/vibration, maybe you have a loose mount somewhere and when you rev the engine to the right resonance, it makes a hellish noise - could be anything. Easier to diagnose if you can get the engine started again to see where the noise is coming from.

Full throttle is not a problem, FYI. This n400 loves to be worked. You clearly just have something going off, regardless.
^ I think most of us here, in the canyons & track at least are constantly in the 9k+ range. So WOT causing an issue is unusual, and probably not the case. I would probably avoid full WOT when you're in the really low in rev range to prevent lugging.

I just crossed 1k miles and I have no reservation running WOT or even bumping red line. IMO this bike is really well built and I would be shocked if WOT was the root cause here.

All manufacturing has failure in parts per million and my guess is that the OP simply lost on that lottery ticket. I'd get it to the dealer and let them sort it out.

Oil was just changed and it’s fine and it has about 16000 miles. I’m leaning towards fuel filter bc no indicators or error codes. Thank u btw for everyone’s replies!! So grateful!! I’m going to have it towed to Kawasaki and let the warranty take over.

Did you ever get this sorted out? Sounds similar to what one experiencing
OP hasn't been around in a while (1.5 years), but 11 days later OP claimed to be doing 133 mph on the freeway ... I am guessing nothing more than being overly noise observant after OP's first high speed riding, and then a coincidental dead battery. Because if it was major warranty work, I doubt it was approved and completed within such a short time window.
