Helmet Lock

Has anyone purchased the OEM helmet lock from Kawasaki? I am curious to know your thoughts on it or if I should go another route and find a different one. I like the idea of it being able to use a single key.

I ordered one from the dealer today and should take a few days. Once I get and install it, I'll post some pics and provide some thoughts.

I've installed these on both our bikes, there are some photos below.
Installation is pretty easy (don't need to remove the whole fairing, just couple of bolts to be able to bend it and gain some access to the anchoring point.
One thing worth mentioning though - I don't think it's possible to remove the cylinder from housing once it's pushed in, so if you mess the key setup and install the cylinder, that's it. Need to triple check that it works with the key before pushing it in.

Overall we are pretty happy with the locks, very handy. A tiny downside is that the keyhole is covered by the helmet, need to lift it and get the key under to unlock.

I received mine yesterday and installed it today in less than 1 hour. Very easy install. No previous experience with locks at all, very straight forward. Read all the instructions first, then look at each part as you re-read the instructions and make sense of it, then follow the instructions. As Amnezida mentioned, triple check that it works with the key before pushing it in. Meant to do a video about it but got so excited to work on it that I forgot :/

My helmet is a bit pricy i would be paranoid even if i lock it on the bike :(
Sorry for reviving this one but I was looking at the helmet hooks under the lockable passenger seat on my 2019 and wondered if the 2018 didn’t have this feature. If it does have it, what does this OEM lock offer that the hooks under the seat don’t?

Yes, they are there on the 2018.. I would assume just convenience for adding another..

Ah yeah, found some additional posts that talked about it. Definitely looks to be a convenience thing.

Sorry for reviving again, but some helmet's D-Rings are mounted too close the the body of the helmet, so the under-the-seat ones don't work. My Icon Airflite doesn't work with the under the seat ones.

My helmet will attach to the pillion hooks under the seat but I’m paranoid that someone will slice the nylon strap and be gone.

i ordered one of these helmet backpacks that will be here in a few days.
Helmet Backpack

Am I overly paranoid or do helmets get stolen off of bikes a lot?

I'm not comfortable leaving my helmet, locked or unlocked... out of sight for long. If I'm away from the bike for more than enough time to take a whizz, I carry it with me. That helmet backpack looks like an interesting alternative. Thanks for the idea. (y)

I figured for $15 and it fits under the pillion, it would work to carry my stuff or groceries if the wife phones in an emergency order while I’m riding. I’ll let you guys know how I like it.

I don't like the idea of leaving my helmet for too long either but my area is pretty safe. I do this sometimes when hitting a store. For longer periods, I take it with me.

I don't know. Has anyone had one stolen? I've never heard of it happening personally, but I'm pretty sure it's happened.

Cheap backpack solution arrived today and it’s brilliant. Easily holds helmet & gloves. Packs up tiny and fits snug under the pillion. Well worth the $13.

I took some pics while assembling mine, so I made a brief HowTo post for it. OEM Helmet Lock Assembly

what does this OEM lock offer that the hooks under the seat don’t?
This lock also lets you use a steel cable with end loops (like you'd use with a padlock) to lock other things to the bike. I saw someone suggest running the cable through the sleeves of your jacket and locking the ends in the helmet lock. It's not a super strong lock, so don't use it to chain your bike to a pole or something. But it does give you a different way to lock your helmet if the underseat hooks don't work well for you and/or the ability to lock other small objects to the bike.

This is definitely not a necessary addon, but it can be handy as an extra lockable point.
