back again, moved TX to SE PA...interested in N 400 again

Hi,
I joined this forum a long time ago while living on the Gulf Coast of TX. I decided not to buy then. Last year we moved from the TX Gulf coast to SE Pennsylvania. Roads and riding here are extremely different. This is a great place to ride a slow bike fast. Speed limits are low, roads are very curvy with lots of hills.

I sold my MV Agusta, and kept my Moto Guzzi V7. I bought an Aprilia Tuono 660 that is too tall for me and I have put 14 miles on. I may sell the Aprilia. It is a nice bike, but built for people with 32 inch inseams. I am short and older.

Anyway, I may have questions. I may be looking to buy a used Ninja or Z400 in this area (Downingtown, PA).

One thing that turned me off about the N400 were a lot of reported mechanical problems. I do have an excellent dealer very close. The one in TX was poor.

Thanks!

The only real issue with N400 is the 2018/2019 clutch has an issue where it is limited to a small amount of wear before it starts slipping.

However, the parts to fix this if you buy a 2018/2019 is just $50 plus maybe a gasket and an hour or two of time -- so it is no big deal.

Just keep your clutch cable adjusted properly to 2-3mm of freeplay and you might get by with nothing.

A secondary issue a few folks who ride hard have is with a coolant seal eventually failing.

Again, the parts to fix this are cheap, but a bit more labor and gasket cost for this job.

Otherwise the bike is pretty solid and simple and fun.

The clutch issue was being talked about when I bought my N400, so I did something out of character & bought the extended warranty. I've naturally not experienced either the clutch issue nor the coolant seal issue at over 25,000 miles. My luck, and I'd have had both if I hadn't bought the extended warranty. :)

10K on my 2019 Z400 with no mechanical issues. I installed Spears Racing clutch springs at about 5K and intend to install their clutch pull rod and bearing down the road (for earlier models). kawasaki EX400 Clutch Pull Rod bearing Kit 2018/2020
There's a freeway between me and the canyons so at times we'll just cruise in the fast lane at 85 to get there.
